EPA Scientists To Participate in Toxicant Identification Workshop
Three members of NHEERL’s Integrated Systems Toxicology Division (ISTD) in Research Triangle Park, NC, will take part in the Workshop on Identification of Relevant Toxicants for Developmental Neurotoxicity in Konstanz, Germany, October 4-6, 2011. Kevin Crofton and William Mundy of ISTD’s Systems Biology Branch and Stephanie Padilla of its Genetic and Cellular Toxicology Branch will participate in sessions to evaluate putative pathways, model systems, and criteria for classification; present an extensive dataset on the effects of reference compounds on in vitro, pathway-based assays for DNT; and provide expert judgment on the level of evidence for chemicals that are developmental neurotoxicants in vivo. Also, at the end of the 3-day workshop, they will engage in discussions to summarize and agree on recommendations, define the challenges ahead, and prepare a report to be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
