NHEERL Researcher To Participate in WHO/IPCS Technical Workshop
Bob Luebke, a research biologist with the NHEERL Environmental Public Health Division Cardiopulmonary and Immunotoxicology Branch in Research Triangle Park, NC, will travel to Bilthoven, Netherlands, in early October to participate in a 3-day workshop. At the World Health Organization/International Programme on Chemical Safety (WHO/IPCS) Technical Workshop and Drafting Group Meeting: Risk Assessment for Chemicals, invited outside experts will provide feedback on the principles and methods described in the document and the application of them in case studies incorporated into the document. As the primary author of one section of the document, significant contributor to two other sections, and chair of subgroups that prepared two of the case studies, Dr. Luebke will be part of the core drafting group considering the experts’ feedback and modifying the document accordingly prior to final editing and publication by WHO.
This is a very high visibility project because national, regional, and international regulatory agencies currently are addressing guidance for immunotoxicity testing, in the absence of clear guidance on using the data for risk assessment. Furthermore, the document likely will become the default international immunotoxicity risk assessment guidance.
