WED Scientist Assists in Estuarine Numeric Nutrient Criteria Development Effort
James Kaldy of NHEERL's Western Ecology Division (WED) was a co-author of a recent technical review of numeric nutrient criteria for California's estuaries. The review was led by Martha Sutula of the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP, Costa Mesa, CA), and findings provide technical support to the California State Water Resources Control Board on the development of numeric nutrient criteria for the State's estuaries. Dr. Kaldy's expertise contributed to an evaluation of how submerged aquatic vegetation can be used as an indicator of eutrophication for a diverse set of California estuaries. The report, "Review of Indicators for Development of Nutrient Numeric Endpoints in California Estuaries," is available on the SSCWRP Web site, ftp://ftp.sccwrp.org/pub/download/DOCUMENTS/TechnicalReports/646_ENNE_IndicatorReview.pdf.
