EPA's Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances (OPPTS) evaluates the environmental risks posed by pesticides and chemicals to protect humans, ecosystems, and wildlife from harmful effects. Within the Office of Research and Development (ORD), scientists and engineers work to ensure that EPA's policies and positions are based on sound science. A crucial component of EPA's work to protect human health and safeguard the natural environment is ensuring that manufactured products such as pesticides are as safe as possible.
