U.S./German Bilateral Agreement on Contaminated Waste
Since 1990, EPA and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) have had a Bilateral Agreement on Contaminated Waste to better understand efforts to develop and demonstrate remedial technologies. Both partner countries work to develop comprehensive approaches to hazardous waste site remediation and evaluate the effectiveness of innovative technology application at critical sites. Specifically, the Bilateral Agreement on Contaminated Waste:
- Facilitates an understanding of both nations' approaches to contaminated site remediation
- Evaluates innovative remedial technologies according to the standards of both countries
- Facilitates international environmental technology exchange
Computer-Aided Process Engineering Metal Finishing Facility Pollution Prevention Tool (CAPE-OPEN)
Chemical process simulation is used in the metal finishing industry to select from various metal-finishing process options. The CAPE-OPEN pollution prevention tool is one option.
The CAPE-OPEN project, funded by the European Union, defines a common application framework for computer-aided process engineering (CAPE). The CAPE-OPEN project provides a middleware standard for chemical process simulation component models.
