Federal Waste Diversion and Recycling Requirements

Executive Order (EO) 13514 requires federal agencies to minimize the generation of waste and pollutants through source reduction. EO 13514 requires agencies to:

Achieve a 50 percent waste diversion rate by fiscal year (FY) 2015.
Achieve a 50 percent construction and demolition (C&D) waste diversion rate by FY 2015.
Reduce paper use.
Increase diversion of organic material, such as food scraps and yard trimmings, from the waste stream.
