Overview of Regulatory Development Timeline & Identifying Needs

A generic Regulatory Development Timeline will be used a baseline for the discussion in order to ground participants. After a presentation on the Timeline and a short discussion on clarifications, we will address each stage in the Timeline separately. In facilitated dialogue, for each stage in the timeline, the group will start discussion with the following questions:

  • Who is involved in this part of the process?
  • What skills must a regulatory development professional possess to be successful at this stage?
  • What are the challenges at this point in the process

Stage 1: Identifying Skills/Training Required for Initiating a Regulatory Action

In addition to the questions above, discuss specific skills and approaches needed for:

  • Identifying the action
  • Determining the anticipated issues
  • Ensuring stakeholder input
  • Outlining a plan for development

Stage 2: Identifying Skills/Training Required for Developing a Proposed Action

  • Determining what kind of process/workgroups might be used in developing a regulatory action
  • Determining what kind of analysis needs to be done for the action (e.g., what issues will need to be addressed?)
  • Developing and selecting options
