Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) for modified Escherichia coli from Verenium Corporation, J10-0001
On October 1, 2009, the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) received a Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) from Verenium Corporation, submitted under the biotechnology regulations promulgated under the Toxic Substances Control Act (62 FR 17910 (April 11, 1997); codified at 40 C.F.R. Part 725). The MCAN was given the EPA tracking designation J-10-01. The recipient microorganism is an Escherichia coli W and the name for the new microorganism is E. coli W-BD28512. The microorganism will be used to ferment C5 sugars from lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol.
