Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) for modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae, J-11-0001

On October 26, 2010, the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) received a Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) from a company whose name is claimed confidential, submitted under the biotechnology regulations promulgated under the Toxic Substances Control Act (62 FR 17910 (April 11, 1997); codified at 40 C.F.R. Part 725). The MCAN was given the EPA tracking designation J-11-0001. The recipient microorganism is a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain modified from the original parental strain. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is also known as baker's yeast or brewer's yeast. The generic name for the new microorganism is Saccharomyces cerevisiae modified. This microorganism will be used in ethanol production.
