GEO Science and Technology Committee

In addition to the OSA GEOSS team activities, OSA also supports the Science and Technology Committee (STC) of the international GEO. The Chief Scientist, Pai-Yei Whung, was recently nominated by the United States to be a co-chair of the STC and has been working in that capacity with assistance from a AAAS fellow, Sarah Carter. With OSA’s input, the STC is working on the development of a strategic Roadmap that will help define its purpose and activities. Broadly, this Roadmap spells out a role for the STC in ensuring that the best science and technology is available to GEO and to users of Earth Observations for policy and decision-making. An initial draft of the Roadmap was circulated to all USGEO principals, and their comments were compiled and integrated into the Roadmap to ensure that the U.S. perspective was captured. In addition to this Roadmap, the STC is responsible for two GEO Tasks, which are currently titled "Catalyzing R&D Funding for GEOSS" and "Promoting Awareness and Benefits of GEO in the S&T Community."
