Superfund and Technology Liaison, Region 6
Terry Burton
Terry Burton is the Superfund and Technology Liaison (STL) for Region 6. As such, he is a senior environmental scientist for the Office of Research and Development, but is stationed in the Region 6 offices in Dallas. Terry provides direct technical assistance on hazardous waste issues, and facilitates access to ORD, academic, and other national resources. In addition, Terry has also served as Situation Unit Leader and Planning Section Chief in the U.S. Incident Command during Hurricane response activities in Louisiana.
Prior to becoming the STL for Region 6, Terry was a Remedial Project Manager in Region 9, with complete responsibility for several small Superfund sites in California. Before coming to EPA, Terry was a Principal Research Associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he worked on the Yucca Mountain repository project. Terry has also done research at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory on clay-radioactive surrogates' interactions; research for a "think tank" on cation-exchange in clay materials, thermodynamic effects in clay reactions, and engineered barrier materials; and worked on several pollution prevention technologies for a Massachusetts state agency.
Terry has a B.S. in Physical Sciences from the University of Southern California. He also has a M.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of California Berkeley. Terry currently lives in Southlake, TX.
