Dave is a Chemical Engineer who earned a B.S. degree in from the University of Illinois 1952, and his Masters (1957) and Ph. D.(1959) from the Ohio State University.
Unlike many Regional Science Liaisons, Dave has spent most his career in the private sector. From 1952 until 1970 Dave worked for the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation (Development Engineer), A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company (Group Leader in Engineering Research) and the Houdry Laboratories of Air Products & Chemicals (Director of Engineering Research and Development). From 1970 until 1990 owned and managed two private businesses, Genieco, Inc. (manufacturing consumer and private label products involving fragrances such as air fresheners) and D.D. Cam, Inc. (a service firm providing engineers and trained inspectors for building evaluations).
After selling his ownership interests in the private companies, Dave joined EPA Region 5 (Chicago, IL). He spent the next six years working on pesticide use, toxicity, disposal and soil contamination issues. In 1996 Dave became the Program Manager for the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program in Region 5, a position he held until accepting the Regional Science Liaison position in 2000. Dave is a member of the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture (SARE) Program, and serves on the Executive Committee, Administrative Council, and Co-chairs the Technical Committee. He also serves on Region 5's Agriculture Workgroup, Toxic Reduction Team, and Co-chairs the Pesticide Workgroup for the Bi-National Strategy (with Canada) for protection and improvement of the Great Lakes.
Dave is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (President, Central Illinois Section 1963) and the American Chemical Society and its Agrochemicals Division. He is also a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon (Mathematics), Phi Lambda Upsilon (Chemistry), Tau Beta Pi (Engineering) fraternities and holds 5 U.S. patents.
Dave and his wife own a 90-acre tree farm in Grant County, Wisconsin, is an avid tennis player and enjoys sailing Lake Geneva, WI with an O'Day Daysailer in the summer.
