Safe Mercury Management Information
SMM HomeEPA promotes the safe management of mercury and mercury-containing wastes. The Safe Mercury Management Program fosters proper protective treatment, disposal, and long-term management of mercury and mercury wastes.
Goals of Safe Mercury Management
EPA’s focus in Safe Mercury Management is to encourage activities that we believe best support the goals of proper recycling and ensuring safe storage and disposal of mercury wastes and elemental mercury. This program includes projects that come from stakeholders such as states, the regulated community and environmental organizations, as well as ideas that we have developed while regulating the treatment and disposal of mercury-bearing wastes.
