WasteWise College and University Campaign
The WasteWise College and University Campaign encourages colleges and universities to actively participate in reducing waste generation and disposal.
The goals of this campaign are to:
- Reduce the amount of waste generated and disposed of by campuses across the United States.
- Increase the participation and reporting among existing WasteWise college and university Partners.
- Increase the number of new colleges and universities participating in WasteWise.
Colleges and Universities that join WasteWise receive:
- Assistance with waste reduction efforts through access to WasteWise publications, tip sheets, case studies, and an account representative;
- Eligibility for the WasteWise College and University Award;
- Access to standardized goals and objectives for colleges and universities; and
- Coordinated enrollment process with RecycleMania.
RecycleMania is a competition among colleges and universities to see which schools can collect the most recyclables over a 10-week period. Founded by two WasteWise Partners in 2001, the program has been extremely successful, with the number of participants nearly doubling each year. WasteWise envisions using RecycleMania as a starting point for collaboration with colleges and universities to reduce waste, and hopes to include more competitions such as a multi-season waste reduction program targeting different waste streams or university events.
