WasteWise States Campaign
The WasteWise States Campaign builds unique partnerships with State environmental agencies to:
- Increase cooperation between Federal and State-level waste reduction outreach—reducing duplication of efforts and controlling costs.
- Leverage the existing expertise and resources of each agency.
- Provide waste reduction resources such as technical assistance, small business assistance, tools, and other similar forms of support to local organizations.
- Provide opportunities for national recognition for participating organizations.
Agencies that join the States Campaign can use WasteWise publications to supplement their own resources. EPA also works with each agency to develop State-specific case studies and materials. States can recruit organizations to join WasteWise and rely on EPA to provide technical assistance and recognition opportunities to new Partners.
How EPA Can Work With Your State
Each state is unique – some have already developed extensive waste reduction programs, while others are unable to devote resources to promote waste prevention and recycling. EPA can work with your State to identify opportunities to supplement existing resources.
Join the WasteWise States Campaign
EPA will collaborate with State agencies that are interested in or responsible for promoting waste reduction. See a list of participating state agencies. Contact the WasteWise Helpline at (800) EPA-WISE (372-9473) to join.
Participating State Agencies
Below are examples of how State agencies have partnered with WasteWise.Massachusetts
Massachusetts
Department of Environmental Protection
developed the Massachusetts WasteWise program, a voluntary partnership program
offering technical assistance and recognition at the state level. Organizations
located in Massachusetts enroll in both the Federal and State WasteWise programs,
increasing their access to technical assistance and awards. The Massachusetts
WasteWise program has expanded to include an organics recycling initiative
targeting supermarkets, and has issued awards to six supermarket chains and
one construction company for their targeted efforts.
South Carolina
The South Carolina
Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC)
promotes WasteWise in its publications, on its Web site, and during site visits
to local businesses. In exchange, EPA developed case studies on WasteWise
Partners located in South Carolina for DHEC to distribute. EPA also helped
DHEC plan a workshop for prospective WasteWise Partners and developed presentations
on topics of interest to South Carolina organizations.
