MOVES2014 for Experienced Users: Rather than an introduction to MOVES, this webinar focuses on what has changed from MOVES2010 to MOVES2014. This webinar includes a demonstration of the conversion of MOVES2010b input files to MOVES2014 format, changes to the MOVES GUI, and new input options in MOVES2014 for fuels, retrofits, and start and hotelling activity. Reference slides for this presentation are here: MOVES2014 Webinar for Experienced Users (PDF) (35 pp, 1.68MB, September 2014) .
Please note that the webinar assume a basic knowledge of previous versions of MOVES.
EPA has presented this webinar on 9/17/2014, 9/25/2014, and 10/22/2014. It may be offered again based on demand -- please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to make such a request.
MOVES2014 at the Project Level for Experienced Users: This webinar covers the changes made within MOVES that enhance the model at the project scale, changes to the MOVES2014 graphical user interface at the project scale, how to convert a MOVES2010b project-level input file to MOVES2014 format, and new input options at the project scale. Reference slides for this presentation are here: MOVES2014 Project Level Webinar for Experienced Users (PDF) (50 pp, 998K October 2014).
This webinar was presented on 10/29/2014, and may be offered again based on demand – please contact email@example.com to make such a request.
Past Webinars (MOVES2010)
The following webinars are based on MOVES2010 but contain information that is still useful for MOVES2014.
- MOVES Batch Mode: Setting up and running groups of related MOVES run specifications – Presented November 3, 2010
This webinar training provided instruction on setting up and running groups of related MOVES runs, including discussion of situations where “batch mode” can be useful and tips for grouping runs. Instructors demonstrated use of the MOVES "Multiple Run Spec Creator," the "Generate Importer XML File" tool, and the MOVES command line interface. The presentation used for this webinar is here: MOVES Batch Mode (PDF) (33 pp, 220K, February 2011)
Here are an example MOVES RunSpec file and an example XML file used for the demonstration:
MOVES RunSpec file: lake_2010_training.mrs
XML file created for a batch run: lake_2011_training.xml
- Introduction to MOVES2010 – Presented October 7, 2010
This webinar provided a general overview of MOVES for both MOVES users and non-modelers. The presentation used for that webinar is here: Introduction to MOVES2010 (PDF) (63 pp, 504K, October 2010)
MOVES2014 2-Day Hands-On Training Course for New MOVES Users
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a training course for MOVES2014. This is a detailed, two-day, hands-on course intended for state and local agency staff who will use MOVES2014 for developing emissions inventories for SIP and conformity analyses. The course is designed to be self-taught in periods where no classes are scheduled, or travel budget constraints prevent attending an EPA or DOT sponsored course. Users can work through the modules and hands-on exercises at their convenience. Please note that this course is intended for new users of MOVES. If you have already taken MOVES2010 training and are familiar with the basic operation of MOVES, please refrain from signing up for this course to leave course spaces open for new users. This course has been updated in March, 2015. Course materials and instructions are available here: MOVES2014 Training Materials (ZIP) (31.3MB, March 2015)
Please note that course attendees are expected to arrive at the course with your own laptop computer with the latest version of MOVES2014 already installed and tested. Please give yourself adequate time to install MOVES prior to leaving for the course as the course instructors do not have time to help with installation or to resolve any installation problems on the day of the course. Course attendees should also download the MOVES training materials (presentations and files needed for course exercises) to a folder on the desktop of your laptop computer. Many course attendees also find it helpful to bring a notebook with the course presentations to annotate during the course.
Dates and Locations of Upcoming Training Courses
- April 13, 2015: San Diego, CA at 21st International Emission Inventory Conference
Conference registration is required to sign up for this course. Conference Registration information at: http://envr.abtassociates.com/emission-inventory-conference/. Note: This training is part of the Emission Inventory Conference and will consist of only one day focusing on using MOVES at the county scale, in inventory and rates mode. For this course, some prior knowledge of MOVES would be helpful, but we will begin with a very quick overview of more basic MOVES tasks. Course materials and instructions for this shortened 1-day version of the MOVES2014 hands on course are here: Emission Inventory Conference MOVES2014 Training Materials (ZIP) (20.1MB, March 2015)

Project Level Training for Quantitative PM Hotspot Analysis
EPA and DOT have developed a multi-day training course in accordance with EPA’s “Transportation Conformity Guidance for Quantitative Hot-spot Analyses in PM2.5 and PM10 Nonattainment and Maintenance Areas”. This technical, hands-on course is geared toward state and local agency staff and focuses on using emission models (including EPA's MOVES model) and air quality models (AERMOD and CAL3QHCR) for quantitative PM hot-spot analyses. More detailed information on this course including training dates and locations, as well as other webinars and presentations on this guidance, has been posted on EPA’s Transportation Conformity Training and Presentations web page: www.epa.gov/otaq/stateresources/transconf/training.htm
