SmartWay Excellence Awards

Each year, EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership recognizes partners’ special achievements that significantly reduce the environmental impacts of the freight sector. The SmartWay Excellence Awards honor organizations that integrate innovative strategies and technologies into their business operations, resulting in reduced energy consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions.

The agency announced the 34 winners of the 2007 SmartWay Excellence Awards during an October 22 luncheon at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' annual conference Exit EPA Disclaimer in Philadelphia.

Profiles of the 2007 SmartWay Excellence Award Winners (PDF) (13 p, 356K, About PDF)

The selection of SmartWay Excellence Award recipients was based on actual emissions reductions and fuel savings achieved compared to the organization's overall fuel consumption and emissions, the types and variety of strategies and technologies implemented, and the overall environmental performance of the organization. Consideration was also given for the organization's innovation, creativity, and general promotion of sustainability and SmartWay.

SmartWay Excellence Award recipients range from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, but all have the same thing in common: They are top performers in either their size or sector in reducing fuel use and lowering emissions.
