Recovery Act Funds Awarded to Reduce Diesel Emissions, Create Jobs

In a move that will create jobs, boost local economies, reduce diesel emissions and protect human health and the environment, EPA is awarding approximately $156 million in grants to clean up diesel emissions from a wide range of transportation sources. These funds are part of a larger $300 million clean diesel program funded by the Recovery Act. The grants are being awarded based on their potential to maximize economic benefits through job preservation and creation, protect public health, and lower diesel emissions from older diesel engines. In addition to achieving significant reductions in diesel emissions, funded projects are focused on cleaning up diesel engines operating in highly populated areas with poor air quality.
