JCPenney is one of America's leading retailers, operating 1,067 department
stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. JCPenney
also runs one of the largest apparel- and home-furnishing sites on
the Internet (jcp.com) and the nation's largest general merchandise
catalog business.
JCPenney has and continues to work closely with its carriers to become
active members of SmartWay, and has already increased its use of SmartWay
carriers from 28 to 46 since joining. JCPenney also conducts
surveys to individual drivers to gain additional information and share
messages on key areas, such as reduced idle times and loading and unloading
procedures while at a JCP facility. All of these strategies are aimed
at lowering energy use and resulting carbon emissions as well as reducing
overall network costs.
