Jones Brothers Trucking, Inc.
Missoula, MT

Number of employees:   50

Jones Brothers Trucking, Inc. has been operating as an irregular route, 48-state, U. S. and Canada flatbed carrier since 1984, with a fleet of 40 company trucks and employing 10 owner operators.

Jones Brothers has taken three significant steps over recent years to reduce emissions and increase efficiency in their fleet.

  1. Starting in 2003, all new Jones Brothers tractors have been equipped with fuel-fired auxiliary heaters to reduce idling during cold weather. And currently they are testing the cost/benefit of an auxiliary power unit provided by Cummins.
  2. Jones Brothers changed its equipment specifications to reduce the overall weight of each tractor and trailer by over 2,500 lbs. to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions from previous specifications.
  3. Every Jones Brothers driver is trained to eliminate unnecessary idle time and increase fuel efficiency by 15% or more. Jones Brothers places high importance on training every driver because they believe, and it has been demonstrated, that operator performance, attitude, and professionalism can make a sizeable difference in emissions and efficiency.

“Tools provided by SmartWay have allowed Jones Brothers to evaluate the positive environmental impact of cost saving strategies.”

— Sten Sohlberg, President
