Based on 2011 data reported by SmartWay Carriers, this chart shows the total empty and non-empty miles for private and for-hire SmartWay truck fleets. Note that this chart is similar to, but not the same as, the chart for average revenue and non-revenue miles, because not all empty miles are non-revenue miles. For SmartWay fleets, private fleet empty miles average 13.5% of total miles, while for-hire fleet empty miles average 12.7% of total miles.

Total miles for fleets in this chart vary slightly with total miles for fleets in the previous chart due to rounding.
