Percent of SmartWay Fleets Using Fuel Types, by Class
Posted March 19, 2013
This graph, based on 2011 SmartWay Carrier data, shows for each truck class the portions of fleets using particular fuel types as percentages of the total number of fleets. SmartWay truck fleets use predominantly diesel or gasoline fuel, with the proportion of use varying with the types of trucks in each class. Some fleets use other fuels, including CNG (compressed natural gas), LNG (liquefied natural gas), or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). However, none of these comprises more than 1% of fuel used in any SmartWay truck class. (CNG fuel is given in gallon equivalents for comparison purposes.) Any biofuel within a listed fuel type that has been used by SmartWay truck fleets has been included in the fuel type totals.
