Industry and Commercial Case Studies from the North Carolina Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance
Case studies describe a pollution prevention program, process or procedure that a business, industry or government facility has undertaken which resulted in significant pollution reduction and/or cost savings. The Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance has compiled a collection of pollution prevention case studies from our office and other regional sources. This page allows you to search for case studies by Standard Industrial Classification Code and industry sector, by pollution prevention category, or from a list of selected waste streams, processes and pollutants.

Region 6 Success Stories Database - Southwest Network for Zero Waste
The Southwest Network for Zero Waste Pollution Prevention case study database. Currently there are 498. Each case study is an example of how a real facility saved money, reduced waste, and/or lowered their regulatory burden through an innovative P2 practice. The studies are often written in a companies own words, with minimal editing.

Compliance Assistance Centers
A source of compliance assistance and P2 information for agriculture, auto repair, chemical, printing, transportation, metal finishing, painting and coating, federal facilities, and other sectors.

Design for the Environment (DfE)
Design for the Environment allows manufacturers to put the DfE label on household and commercial products, such as cleaners and detergents, that meet stringent criteria for human and environmental health. Using these products can protect your family's health and the environment.

E3: Economy, Energy and Environment
Operating under the umbrella of the Green Suppliers Network, E3 is a coordinated federal and local technical assistance initiative to help manufacturers adapt and thrive in a new business era focused on sustainability. The program provides technical assessments of production processes and training in four key areas; Lean, Clean, Energy, Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Energy Star for Buildings and Plants
Improving the energy efficiency of the places where we work, play and learn helps us save energy, save money and fight global warming. Available here are tools, experienced professionals, strategy and recognition. Look for facilities that have earned the Energy Star - the national mark of excellence in energy performance - and know with confidence that the facilities are energy efficient and have a smaller carbon footprint.

Green Engineering
Green Engineering is the design, commercialization and use of processes and products that are feasible and economical while: reducing the generation of pollution at the source; and minimizing the risk to human health and the environment.

Green Suppliers Network
The Green Suppliers Network is a collaborative venture among industry, the U.S. EPA, and the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST MEP), a leading provider of technical assistance to manufacturers. Green Suppliers Network works with large manufacturers to engage their small and medium-sized suppliers in low-cost technical reviews that focus on process improvement and waste minimization. EPA provides program support and funding.

Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx) Centers
The Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx) is a consortium of eight regional pollution prevention information centers, funded in part through grants from EPA. These centers all provide pollution prevention information, networking opportunities and other services to States, local governments and technical assistance providers in their region.
