Transmittal of Region 5's revised Guidance #5 and a request for review of and comments on draft revised Guidance #6

Dear Sir or Madam:

This letter accompanies three documents: 1) Region 5 Guidance #5: Determination of the Mechanical Integrity of Injection Wells, which we have revised, thanks in part to comments from some of you, 2) our specific responses to those comments, and 3) a draft revision of Region 5 Guidance #6: Planning, Executing and Reporting Pressure Transient Tests. The Guidance #5 documents are for your information and Guidance #6 is for your review. The revised Guidance #6 now includes additional test types, and the format is being revised to be more helpful.

Please review the draft of revised guidance #6 and offer suggestions on how it might be further improved. We are interested in your comments on format, writing style, and technical content. We hope to begin any necessary revisions to Guidance #6 based on your comments by the end of July, 1998. However, if it is impossible for you to prepare comments before that time, we will accept and consider comments until the final document is actually ready for our final approval.

Please submit your comments in writing to the attention of Harlan Gerrish at the UIC Branch address above. If you have any questions which you would like clarified before submitting comments, please contact Harlan Gerrish at (312) 886-2939 or gerrish.harlan@epa.gov.

Sincerely yours,

Rebecca L. Harvey, Chief
