Model Software

Risk Assessment

The following models are used to assess risk and dose. PRESTO, CAP88-PC, and COMPLY can be used to demonstrate compliance with 40 CFR 61, Subpart H and I.

CAP-88 and CAP-88 PC
an atmospheric transport model for assessing dose and risk from radioactive air emissions. Applicable to Department of Energy compliance with Clean Air Act.

COMPLY
an atmospheric screening model for assessing dose from radioactive air emissions. Applicable to Department of Energy compliance with Clean Air Act, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission 10 CFR 20.

PRESTO out of date
a multimedia model for assessing risk from low-level and low- activity wastes, NARM, and uranium mill tailings waste.

GENII-NESHAPS
The GENII System provides a state-of-the-art, fully documented set of software for calculating radiation dose and risk from radionuclides released to the environment. The GENII-NESHAPS edition automatically incorporates specific requirements of the NESHAPS regulations. However, EPA has not approved it for demonstrating compliance with NESHAPS Subparts H and I.

Dose Calculator

Dose and Risk Calculation Software (DCAL)
DCAL is a comprehensive software system for the calculation of tissue dose and subsequent health risk from intakes of radionuclides or exposure to radionuclides present in environmental media. DCAL was developed for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and is documented in ORNL/TM-2001/190. The software runs on a PC under Windows 98/NT/2000/XP. The system includes extensive libraries of biokinetics and dosimetric data and models representing the current state of the art. DCAL maybe used either in an interactive mode or in a batch mode and is intended for experienced users with knowledge of computational dosimetry.
