Region 3 has reviewed the land use status of the cleanup sites under EPA authority to calculate the amount of land being addressed under EPA programs and the current use status of that land. These reports reveal that former hazardous waste sites, abandoned factories, and landfills are being reused or redeveloped into new businesses, townhomes, ball fields and wildlife refuges. These efforts have saved valuable green space, boosted local economies, and revitalized blighted communities.
