Drake Cleanup Team Resumes Treatment of Site Soils
LOCK HAVEN, PA; March 12, 1998 -- At 3:20 p.m., today, the Drake Cleanup Team began treating soil from the Superfund site following delays after the Thermal Relief Vent (TRV) opened Wednesday evening. The TRV opened for a total of 88 seconds in response to the effects of a frozen air pressure control valve on the evaporative cooler.
Maintenance crews spent much of the day testing and checking every regulator and valve on the evaporative cooler, to assure that none were frozen and that all worked as intended.
Such TRV openings were considered in the risk assessment which concluded that the incinerator would be operated without threat to human health or the environment.
