Basic Information
The purpose of this website is to highlight ongoing regional and national activities, programs, and other information related to climate change. Primarily the focus is on Region 4’s approach to dealing with energy and climate related issues, with links to useful resources from EPA and outside sources. To respond to growing concern about energy and climate change concerns, Region 4 has developed a workgroup that will focus on these issues. This workgroup is called the Energy and Climate Change workgroup (EC2) and is comprised of Region 4 employees from each media office (Air, Water, Solid Waste, and Superfund) as well as the Office of Policy Management and the Office of Environmental Accountability. The EC2 group will coordinate efforts across divisions and with EPA Headquarters in order to more effectively address the changes that are occurring in our region. Specifically, this workgroup will pursue policies and actions to aid the Southeast in using energy more efficiently, in the transition to cleaner energy sources, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and in the implementation of mitigation and adaptation strategies.
EPA has developed many national voluntary programs focused on reducing green house gas emissions. The EC2 workgroup hopes to expand the participation in these programs throughout the Southeast. Voluntary programs that are specifically relevant to our Regional needs include the Methane to Markets Program, Climate Leaders, the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency, the Smartway Transport Partnership, Green Power Partnership, WasteWise, and the Smart Growth program. Information about each of these programs is available through the main EPA website at http://www.epa.gov/.
