EPA's Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) Program is a voluntary program to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Southern California Edison (SCE) has been a partner in this program and recently commemorated the recycling of its one millionth refrigerator at a ceremonial appliance crushing celebration in Compton, California.
Science Teacher Honored for Water Monitoring Work
A Santa Maria, CA teacher, Riccardo Magni, has won the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators (PIAEE). The award was recently created by the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the EPA. It recognizes outstanding teachers who employ innovative approaches to environmental education and use the natural environment as a place of learning for their students.

Food Waste to Energy
A new mapping tool has been designed for decision-makers with technical expertise in the fields of waste management, wastewater treatment, and renewable energy. The tool allows users to determine the types of food processing facilities in their area and the distance between a waste producer and an anaerobic digester.

Leading the Way to Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance
EPA and the Department of the Navy are collaborating to conduct environmental footprint analyses to support greener cleanups on both active and closed Navy installations in the Pacific Southwest Region.
Enforcement - Protecting Wetlands
Salmon and steelhead populations have been greatly diminished on the North Coast due to the destruction of their aquatic habitat. EPA's action ensures the restoration of wetland habitat along Strongs Creek and will advance the recovery of these valuable fish species.
