Renewable Energy and Jobs in Low-Income Communities

GRID Alternatives of Oakland, Calif., provides renewable energy and energy efficiency services, equipment and training to low-income communities. It developed a solar affordable housing program that has trained more than 8,000 community volunteers and job trainees who have installed more than 2,000 photovoltaic solar power systems.

Supporting Sustainable Cities

EPA’s Green Government Award was presented to Arizona State University’s Sustainable Cities Network, which bridges the gap between the university’s research and communities working to advance solar and renewable energy, mitigate urban heat islands, and deal with water challenges associated with a changing climate.
