Region 1: EPA New England
Pesticide Regulatory Information
EPA receives its authority to register pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) for the US. States are authorized to regulate pesticides under FIFRA and under state pesticide laws. EPA and the states (usually that state's agriculture office) register or license pesticides for use in the United States. Additionally, states may place more restrictive requirements on pesticides than EPA. Pesticides must be registered both by EPA and the state before distribution and use.
