Adaptation Efforts: EPA New England
Climate Ready Estuaries – Estuaries and coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to climate variability and change. In order to protect their ecosystems from projected impacts of sea level rise, increasing temperatures, and other effects, coastal managers may need to develop and implement adaptation measures. In New England the following estuaries are in the climate ready estuaries program: Casco Bay (ME), Massachusetts Bays (MA); Narragansett Bay (RI); Piscataqua (NH); Long Island Sound (CT). For details on theses projects visit New England Climate Ready Estuaries.
Climate Ready Water Utilities program provides resources for drinking water and waste water treatment system facilities to develop and implement long-range plans that account for climate change impacts.
New England Federal Partners is an affiliation of 16 federal agencies in New England and the northeast that meets regularly to consider climate change adaptation and mitigation, and marine spatial planning in connection with coastal and ocean locational management issues. The purpose of the group is to facilitate collaborative efforts on the part of all federal agencies in the region to support states and local governments in dealing with these matters.
