Britannia Street

Britannia Street, 40 Rear Britannia St., and 5 Rear Green St., Taunton, Mass.

An analysis of surface soil samples collected by EPA indicated elevated concentrations of lead at this site, at the border between two parcels. The 40 Rear West Britannia St. property is owned by St. Germain and Son Inc., and the 5 Rear Green St. property is owned by Olson Investment Inc. Both were ordered by EPA to eliminate the threat presented by the lead contamination. Work was overseen by EPA. Work at the Green Street property began July 22, 2009, and on the W. Britannia Street property on Aug 7, 2009. About 500 cubic yards of contaminated soil was excavated and disposed of from Green Street and about 424 cubic yards was excavated and disposed of from W. Britannia Street. All work was done by August 2010.
