Waste Site Cleanup & Reuse in New England

Chrome Engineering, Bridgeport, CT

Chrome Engineering

The City of Bridgeport discovered a contaminated 600-ton pile of soil in March 2010 while sampling during a Brownfields assessment. The Conn. Department of Environmental Protection identified the pile as an imminent hazard. The main contaminant of concern was cadmium, but high levels of lead and chromium also were found in soil samples. The metals were chemically neutralized so they were not hazardous and so the soil was safe to handle as non-hazardous for transport and disposal. The contamination was removed by May 2010.
