Nearly $1 Million Awarded for Projects to Improve Health of Long Island Sound

Under the Long Island Sound Futures Fund program, EPA and other federal and state environmental officials announced today in Rye, N.Y., 35 grants totalling $912,994 to government and community groups. Habitat restoration, water quality and wildlife conservation projects are among the initiatives funded.

New York City stands at the forefront of the green building and design movement, and the winners of the 2008 Green Building Competition for New York City exemplify a growing commitment to incorporate environmental factors into the city's architecture. The competition, co-sponsored by EPA and New York City, selected six winning projects, five in Manhattan and one in the Bronx.
