EPA's approval of New Jersey's participation in the NLEV Program was effective
on January 3, 2000.

Summary:
New Jersey joined other states in the Northeast to opt to participate
in the National Low Emission Vehicle (NLEV) program where automobile manufacturers
will sell cleaner vehicles meeting
the NLEV standards. This program will continue until the Federal Tier
2 standards take affect for the 2004 model year.
New Regulations Included As Part of the SIP:
NJAC, Subchapter 26 Ozone Transport Commission - Low Emission Vehicles
Program, effective March 1, 1999.
Commitments:
New Jersey committed as part of this SIP revision to require new cars
to meet the National Low Emission Vehicle standards instead of the California
Low Emission Vehicle standards.
