Tips
- Turn off your computer completely when you are going to be away from your desk for more than two hours. That includes turning off your monitor! Ditto for desk lights.
- Think before you print or make copies. If you really need to, then double-side print.
- Before printing, see if reducing margins will fit more on less pages.
- Walk or take public transit to work. If you must drive, carpool.
- Take public transportation or carpool to your next meeting. Even better, don't go at all! Meet via a conference call or webinar (like through the EPA Portal - for EPA employees only).
- If you have a government vehicle that can take E85 fuel, fill it with that instead of gas; a list of stations is in each vehicle.
- Use the EPA Supplies Corporate Express website
to order "green" office supplies.
- Encourage others to participate in our EMS program. Seek guidance from the EMS team.
Everyone has a footprint icon on their computer screen. It will take you to the Region 3 EMS website, where you will find more information about our EMS and opportunities to participate.
- DO place bottles, cans and #1 and #2 plastics in the recycling bins in the kitchens.
- DO put used paper in a blue recycling bin.
- Put unneeded supplies in your office's supply cabinet or return them to the Supply Room.
- Use used supplies when available instead of new ones.
- When getting take-out say "no" to condiments you won't use.
- Bring your snacks in reusable containers.
