Federal Facilities Compliance Assistance

Federal facilities program managers were placed in the Office of Environmental Accountability to coordinate Region 4's compliance assurance activities at federal facilities across the southeast. This area covers the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Activities include outreach, compliance assistance, training, environmental management reviews, and multi-media inspections.

Executive Order 13148.

Executive Order 13148 Exit EPA Disclaimer requires federal agencies to implement Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) at appropriate federal agency facilities by December 31, 2005. An EMS is a structured method of management that integrates environmental management and awareness into all activities of an organization. To help facilities implement EMSs, EPA has developed written guidelines and instructional tools for managers of federal facilities.

In addition, the EPA Region 4 Federal Facilities Coordinator and Civilian Agency Coordinator perform Environmental Management Reviews (EMRs). These EMRs are FREE to requesting facilities, and provide the facility with a report indicating the health of the facility's EMS and suggestions for improvements. If your facility is interested in participating in an EMR, contact the coordinators listed below.
