EPA RELEASES REPORT FOR FEMA ON OPPORTUNITIES TO OPTIMIZE ASPECT AERIAL SURVEYS
EPA conducted a ground based radiation survey in January 2011 at the Coronet Industries, Incorporated site in Plant City, FL in an effort to evaluate areas potentially affected by former phosphate mining. Concurrently during the field work, EPA conducted specialized aerial surveying over the site in order to determine the impact of different altitudes and different flight passes on data quality and timeliness, to compare aerial data to ground data, and to provide additional site data. This work was funded by FEMA under its Nuclear Incident Response Team (NIRT) Program, pursuant to the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2002. This aerial survey was conducted by EPA's ASPECT (Aerial Spectral Photometric Environmental Collection Technology) plane.
