Priority Watersheds for the Southeast

Priority watersheds are those where Region 4 and our state partners have agreed to focus our mutual resources to protect and restore waters. Existing Investment Watersheds are those where EPA has a major investment outside the Priority watershed process, such as the Gulf of Mexico and the National Estuary Program. Click on the state names on the right to scroll down to the lists of watersheds.

Priority Watersheds

The map above shows the location of priority watersheds and existing EPA investment watersheds in the southeast as of January 2009. To assist you in locating watersheds in your area a map showing the watersheds and county outlines (PDF)(1p, 156K) About PDF) is available.

The public can also download the Priority Watersheds layer package at ArcGIS Online. To view this layer package, please download and install the free ArcGIS Explorer software.

In the lists below, each watershed is identified by the Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) and a link to the EPA Surf Your Watershed site which will give additional information about the watershed and ways citizens can get involved to protect water resources.
