Needs Documents
In summer 2009, EPA Region 5 surveyed scientists and managers to identify needed technology for mitigation and measurement of environmental conditions. See the results in Solving Environmental Problems with Innovative Technology: A Midwest Perspective (PDF) (5pp, 138K) September 2009. See also EPA Region 5 Needs.
EPA Region 6 (Dallas) and the General Services Administration Region 5 (Chicago) have also identified emerging needs.
We welcome your feedback on these documents as well at r5innovation@epa.gov
Regulatory Digest
EPA's Regulatory Agenda updates the public on regulations and major policies under development, under review or which have been completed or cancelled since the last agenda.
We've produced a digest of entries with technology implications from the Spring 2009 Semiannual Regulatory Agenda (PDF) (164pp, 1.6MB) which may suggest emerging technology needs.

EPA's Assets for Technology Development
EPA has a number of programs designed to foster technology development:
- Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
- Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program
- Researchers interested in collaborating with EPA can contact our Federal Technology Transfer Act (FTTA) Program.
- Under some circumstances, EPA's Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) program can be a way to get innovative technologies tested under real world conditions.
- Use the Environmental Technology Opportunities Portal (ETOP) to connect with EPA on innovative technology issues.
- Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative Leadership Group - public-sector and private-industry organizations working to meet the goal of reducing emissions from one million diesel engines in the region by 2010
