Site Updates

November 2013 update

The remedies that have been selected for the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant sites are in place and operating successfully. Land use controls are effectively restricting land uses to those uses that are appropriate for the various portions of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant (JOAAP). Those portions of the JOAAP site, the majority of which have been transferred, include portions that are now under productive reuse by the U.S. Forest Service (Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie), the Veteran’s Administration (Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery), the County of Will (500 acre landfill), and several thousand acres that have been put to productive uses through commercial and industrial redevelopment.. To verify that the remedies in place on the former JOAAP continue to effectively protect human health and the environment, a CERCL Five Year Review will be performed in the current fiscal year (FY2014).
