Background

The Lammers Barrel Factory site (also known as the Kohnen and Lammars Chemical Company) is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Grange-Hall and East Patterson Roads, in Beavercreek, Greene County, Ohio. The company operated as a chemical recycling facility from 1953 until 1969. During its operation, the facility maintained above-ground storage capacity of over 500,000 gallons as well as a number of vertical tanks, several transport trucks and semitrailers, and approximately 6000 55-gallon drums. The site is located on a two-acre parcel of land, and is divided into north and south portions by Little Beaver Creek. (more...)

Site Updates

July 2014

EPA signed a Record of Decision (ROD)  for Operable Unit 1 (OU1) at the Lammers Barrel site on September 27, 2011. OU1 consists of the Lammers Barrel site property at the corner of Grange Hall Road and East Patterson Road in Beavercreek, Ohio.  This ROD describes the cleanup plan for the Lammers Barrel site property and includes in-situ soil mixing to treat contaminated soils, Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination (ERD) to address contaminated groundwater and institutional controls or limited use to prevent unacceptable exposures to contamination at the site.  EPA recently completed negotiations with a group of responsible parties, and a Consent Decree was entered in United States District Court on April 22, 2014.  This Consent Decree calls for the responding settling defendants to begin the design and construction of the remedy for OU1 this summer.  In addition, remedial investigation sampling will continue at OU2, which consists of the contaminated groundwater plume that has migrated off of the Lammers Barrel property to the east, in July 2014.  EPA plans to complete a ROD which will describe the cleanup plan for the offsite groundwater plume sometime in 2015.
