6 Brownfields Program

Region 6 Brownfields Resources
![]()
- Deadlines for submitting proposals for the Assessment, Cleanup, and Revolving Loan Fund (ARC) and Job Training grant competitions have passed. Proposals are now being evaluated and ranked. Selections for Fiscal Year 2010 ARC grants are expected to be made in late March or early April; Job Training in late February.
- Area Wide Brownfields Assessment & Redevelopment Planning. A new initiative in the Brownfields Program will be available to selected communities seeking contract-supported technical assistance for area wide planning for groups of brownfield sites. These communities will have to demonstrate the presence of a viable plan, local support, and be consistent with local plans.
- This past year, Region 6 grantees completed over 100 site assessments, and over 20 sites are either cleaned up or very close to getting certified as cleaned up under their state programs. Funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has ignited the Region’s Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) Program. There are now over 30 active TBA sites taking advantage of the free assessment services provided.

Gretna, Louisiana - After a 20-year odyssey navigating through Federal and State environmental regulations, persistently pursuing needed resources and assistance, the City of Gretna successfully cleanuped up and sold a property once contaminated by various household and industrial chemical compounds. The site will be used to expand a local manufacturer's facilities. See the EPA Region 6 Brownfields Program success story for details: Former Malter Property (PDF, 1 pg, 56KB).
