Ambient Toxicity Monitoring Program

Watershed management section staff coordinate an ambient toxicity monitoring program to (1) identify waterbodies with the potential for aquatic life use impairment attributable to toxicants, and (2) identify needs for follow-up studies or corrective actions. State, Tribal, or local agencies collect water and sediment samples that are analyzed by the Regional laboratory. Standard chronic toxicity tests are conducted using embryolarval fish and Ceriodaphnia dubia.
