Public Comment Period Announced - Clean Harbors Renewal Request for PCB Chemical Detoxification in Coffeyville, Kansas
INTRODUCTION
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 7, is requesting public comments and offering an opportunity for a public hearing on a renewal request from Clean Harbors PPM, LLC to approve its disposal of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) waste by a chemical detoxification process.
EPA has submitted the Clean Harbors Toxic Substances Control Act PCB Chemical Detoxification Approval # KSD 981 506 025 renewal request for public comments and offers an opportunity for a public hearing as set out by guidance. EPA, in consultation with the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment, will review all comments and consider approval of the renewal request following the comment period.
BACKGROUND
The Clean Harbors site is at Hwy 169 North, Coffeyville, Kan. The site is an approved storage and disposal facility seeking to renew the Sept. 25, 1996, approval for the chemical detoxification process, which is part of the KSD 981 506 025 approval.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD AND REQUEST FOR PUBLIC HEARING
EPA is accepting comments and requests for a public hearing for 30 days beginning Jan. 30, 2007. Comments must be received by March 1, 2007. The agencies will review all comments following the public comment period and determine whether any modification to the renewal request should be made.
