Availability of Administrative Record, Franklin County Lead Superfund Site, Franklin County, Missouri
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has compiled the administrative record for the Franklin County Lead Superfund Site. The administrative record is the official site file and contains technical documents such as the Action Memorandum which authorizes Agency funding for site sampling and response activities.
EPA invites the public to review the administrative record during a 30-day comment period from March 24, 2008 to April 24, 2008. Residents of Franklin County can review the administrative record during normal business hours at the following location:
St. Clair Public Library
570 South Main Street
St. Clair, Missouri 63077
EPA placed a display ad in the Washington Missourian newspaper on Saturday, March 22, to invite public comment on the administrative record.
In late 2006, EPA began collecting soil and water samples from residential properties located near mining or mine-waste disposal areas in Franklin County. The soil and water samples were analyzed for the presence of lead and other heavy metals.
EPA is planning a more focused sampling effort
this spring. EPA also plans to host a public availability session in April or May to inform local citizens about sampling results and projected cleanup activities.
