Region 8
The EPA Region 8 roof is full of plants, just like your yard! This is why:
In the countryside, rain and snow sink right into the ground, giving nutrients to the roots and soil. The water helps plants to grow and provides food for the animals. But in the city, the rain flows onto roads and parking lots, picking up chemicals and polluting nearby rivers.
Our green roof does lots of great things:
- Decreases the flow of water into the storm drain
- Converts carbon dioxide, water and sunlight into oxygen for humans and animals.
- Removes the chemicals and pollutants from the water
- Prevents the formation of smog
- Creates a living environment for birds and insects
- Insulates the building, keeping it warm in the winter and cool in the summer
