The
Environmental Justice Program has developed a Geographic
Information System (GIS) Mapping Tool to help identify areas
of environmental justice concern within a state. The EJ
Mapping Tool will create 8 ½ by 11 inch color maps
surrounding either a specific facility or latitude/longitude
location within Region 8. The application was developed
to address the need to respond quickly to requests for site
specific information related to Environmental Justice concerns
and serve as a screening and planning tool.

EnviroMapper is a Web-based interactive mapping tool for viewing
and querying environmental information. This application allows
users to zoom in to an area, or enter a state, county, city, ZIP
code, or watershed to view environmental data from EPA's Envirofacts
Warehouse. EnviroMapper allows you to generate maps of your geographic
area that contain environmental information stored in EPA's Envirofacts
Warehouse. The type of environmental information includes: Superfund
sites, drinking water, toxic and air releases, hazardous waste,
and water discharge permits. You can also view this information
in context by adding map features to your map, including major roads,
railroads, churches, hospitals, schools, populated places, counties,
states, streams, streets, water bodies, watersheds, rivers, and
federal lands.

EJ Geographic Assessment Tool
|
 |
| The EJ Geographic
Assessment Tool is based on the assessment methodology found
in EPA's EJ Toolkit. Environmental Justice Indicators discussed
in the EJ Toolkit generally fall into four categories, i.e.,
environmental, health, social, and economic. The new national
EJ Assessment Tool supports an analysis of adverse health or
environmental impacts, aggregate or cumulative impacts, unique
exposure pathways, vulnerable or susceptible populations, or
lack of capacity to participate in the decision-making process.
Health data is still being developed, and, as it becomes available,
will be incorporated into the Tool. |
