Lead Poisoning Prevention
|
The Office of Environmental Justice also distributes bilingual lead poisoning prevention information through daycares, schools, nutrition programs and healthcare providers. The educational materials provided by the EPA inform care givers of methods to identify and reduce lead hazards that pose a threat to children. The outreach conducted by the Office of Environmental Justice encourages parents and care givers who feel that their children may be at risk for lead poisoning to have their children tested for elevated blood lead by their physician. |

Lead
poisoning is more prevalent in children who live in older housing, and
in children of low income families. In Colorado, a significant number
of Hispanic children fall into these categories. Therefore, the Office
of Environmental Justice is focusing a component of their outreach activities
on reaching the Hispanic community by providing bilingual education
at health fairs and other community events.
